Katrina Relief
Background
PanIIT (Federation of IIT Alumni associations) along with organizations including TIE and other India associations is launching a concerted effort to help persons affected by Katrina - particularly International students, and Professionals who have lost their jobs and homes. We want to use the IIT Alumni momentum and the resources of people of Indian origin to make a major difference to the community !
Plan of Action
We will work with Mayors/Govt.s of cities where evacuees are being relocated e.g. Houston, Atlanta, Baton Rouge and help organizations like Red Cross and other Govt. organizations in the relief efforts.Working with these organizations, we wish to help in meeting the immediate and longer term needs:
- Locate affected people and provide immediate assistance and accomodation
- Set up staffed help desks in the relocation destination and hot lines for quick access
- Setup mobile Kiosks, with mobile access to web, communications, etc.
- connecting people, communications, accommodations, long term help (jobs, etc.)
- Mobilize volunteers to help in various task
- Set up web portal for relief effort e.g. LAMBDANETS
- Provide assistance in rebuilding their lives

- jobs, etc.
