To obtain financial assistance from FEMA, please follow the following steps [These were the exact steps followed by Kalpana]

• Calling FEMA works much better than applying online, so please call
  1-800-621- 3362


• If you have no time constraints, then the ideal time to call would be after 7 PM EST


• Please provide details regarding your location during the hurricane,SSN etc. to the person who answers your call


• Do note that a series of questions are asked and a confirmation number would be given. [Please make sure you have a confirmation number before you hang up]


• The bank details would also be asked as the money will be deposited to our bank directly, so keep your check book handy.


• It takes 36-48 hrs to get the amount credited to your account


• You can also check the status online at FEMA.GOV using your confirmation number
