Activities in Houston

Quoting from an article from REDIFF.COM "The Indian-American community [in Houston] has joined in relief efforts that range from fundraising to folding clothes, cooking vegetarian food, throwing open their homes to accommodate those in need. It is a consolidated effort by over 40 Indian-American organizations that have divided the chores among themselves."

Activities in Baton Rouge

When Katrina struck, many of the Indian students from the University of New Orleans had migrated to Baton Rouge, taking only their papers and few clothes, hoping to get back in two days. Unfortunately, their apartments are completely submerged under water now and hence they are unable to retrieve any personal belongings. These students need some monetary help for transitional expenses ASAP. To help the sutdents with monetary support please use the information at Baton Rouge Relief Site

Temporary Housing and Employment

Pan-IIT has initiated rehabilitation work for persons displaced by KATRINA. If you would like to help with temporary housing or finding professional employment, or know of persons requiring assistance, please contact Alan Krishnan [alan [dt] krishnan[at] ionidea [dot] com/703.277.2167]

Contacting Alumni

We are trying to establish contact with the people [mostly IIT alumni] who were the staying in the affected region and make sure that they are safe and doing good. We need a volunteers to get in touch with everyone in our lists.
