Narendra K. Gupta, cofounder and managing director of Nexus Venture Partners, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Dr. Gupta graduated from IIT Delhi with B. Tech. in mechanical engineering. He is a Caltech alumunus (MS in aeronautics) and completed his PhD in applied mechanics at Stanford University.


Kapil Sibal, India's Education Minister spoke at a forum moderated by Pan IIT USA Chairperson Umang Gupta on 23rd September 2010 in Santa Clara, CA. He presented his vision to increase college participation among India’s 220 Million children. His aim is to get over 40M into colleges by year 2020. Today only 14M go on to colleges or vocational schools. This requires opening up new universities at an unprecedented pace and expanding the capacity of existing centers dramatically. He invited U.S. universities to collaborate in opening campuses in India.

Dr Divyendu Sinha

A loss for everyone - The tragic and gruesome murder by teenagers of Dr Divyendu Sinha (IIT KGP 1982) has sent shock waves. He was a gifted researcher recognized for his contributions to the fields of image processing, robotics, computer networking and graph theory. He published several books and papers in the areas of fuzzy mathematics and real-time imaging with applications in Healthcare for diagnostics and Robotic vision systems.


Gaurav Gupta runs the best state bus service in India - 2.5 million passengers daily, 7,000 buses. KSRTC is the most profitable state transport undertakings in India - first to switch to electronic ticketing machines and pioneering cellphone-friendly, web-based reservation system.

Gaurav graduated (EE) from IIT Kanpur and then did his M. Tech in power systems at IIT Delhi.

Dr. Subhash Khot named recipient of Alan T. Waterman Award for 2010. This is NSF's most prestigious award. It includes a grant of $500,000 for research. Dr. Khot (IITB '99) is working in the area of "Computational Complexity" which seeks to understand the power and limits of efficient computation.

 

Enterpreneur team from IITM wins "NYC Next Idea 2009" Global Business Plan competition - announced by Mayor Bloomberg. 

The team, Greenext Technology Solutions, devised a new system to allow utility companies and energy producers to store and distribute energy through remote sites across the five boroughs safely and efficiently, and was selected by a panel of judges from New York City 's venture capital community to receive $20,000 prize.

Materials and technology scientist Srikumar Banerjee (IIT KGP) takes over as the Atomic Energy Commission (India) chairman.

Banerjee is credited with developing a novel fabrication schedule for the pressure tubes used in pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR). He has published over 300 scientific papers in reputed national and international journals.
