Good local programming is an excellent way to promote participation and best way to spread the word about chapter activities. CAP-IIT organized a “show-and-tell” series starting with a company called Archtech that has developed technologies for water purification and disposal of ammunition etc. Their technology is most relevant for India as it is here and we had a great turnout, many of whom had not attended prior events! They heard about the program from friends and expressed interest in continued involvement. Another idea is to have a “Meet-a-Distinguished-Alumnus” series, for example in Nov 2006, with Arjun Malhotra, Founder of HCL, and prior to that one with Ramani Iyer, Chairman of the Hartford. Those programs attracted 50 to 100 people! Such programming takes the meetings beyond social networking to mentoring and entrepreneurship. Planned events for 2007 include:
How other chapters can leverage Capital IIT for PR or Advocacy:
- Capital IIT has a powerful connection with US Government (Congress and White House)
- We are a partner with USIBC and other Indo-US Collaboration group
- We have a good working relationship with CII and other organizations promoting “Branding India”
- We were deeply involved in the “Outreach” program during the IIT2005 conference.
