The goals of IIT SINE are:

  • Provide opportunities for interaction by organizing activities such as seminars, discussion groups, and dialogues between its members and visiting IITians.
  • Create consciousness among the members about the importance of involvement in civic and current affairs and generate visibility and contacts in those areas for the good of the IIT SINE community.
  • Facilitate interaction among members and their families by organizing social and cultural events. Generate environment and programs for children of the members to create a sense of fellowship among them and also develop leadership qualities among the youth.
  • Develop and nurture mutually beneficial relationships between the members and the IITs. Support the IITs in their effort to establish relationships with US-based organizations.

Social networking includes Annual Picnics and Diwali functions. Past professional networking events include speakers such as Arjun Malhotra (Chairman, Headstrong), Anil Singhal (President, CEO and Co-founder, NetScout Systems), Dr. Ashok Sood (Co-founder, Magnolia Optical Technologies) and Dr. Desh Deshpande (President and CEO, Sycamore Networks) and Dr. Dev Gupta (President and CEO, Narad Networks).

The most successful events are social interaction or networking type - high profile speakers always bring people out. Keeping the cost of events low is very important, otherwise attendance drops exponentially.  It has been challenging to motivate IITians. There are active Indian Political Forums and TiE organizations in this area, where many IITians are involved with these organizations. So, some activities which may of interest to other chapters do not appeal to majority of the IIT SINE members.
