Dr. Vijay Subramanian, Pan-IIT, Tennessee

Dr. Vijay Subramanian is an expert on corrosion, coatings, surface modifications and adhesion. In his present position, he is responsible for Original Equipment and Aftermarket Friction Products Formulations (Brake Pads) in North America.
He is known for his groundbreaking research on the use of Silane Coupling Agents for Corrosion Protection. This work won the prestigious Collegiate Inventors Award from National Inventors Hall of Fame and the R&D 100 Award for best new technologies; and has spurred new research in various universities in USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, England and Australia. His technical leadership in implementing this technology helped Federal Mogul Sealing System in South Carolina earn prestigious awards from DEHEC, SC (Department of Health and Environmental Control). The particular technology is sweeping the world as a green alternative to the carcinogenic hex-chrome, made famous in the 2000 movie by Julia Roberts titled Erin Brockovich.
He is the author of 20 publications and chapters in various books on surface technologies and holds multiple patents worldwide. He has been a reviewer for Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology and various symposia and conference proceedings in the field of Surface Modifications.
Prior to joining Frictions group, he spent 6 years in Federal Mogul’s Sealing Systems Division as a Materials Engineer. He was in charge of R&D of all adhesives and surface treatments used in their Sealing Systems Division, North Americas. He also coordinated industry sponsored research with various universities.
Prior to his employment with Federal Mogul, he was an Adjunct Faculty at the University of Cincinnati - College of Applied Sciences. He is furthering his interests in the academia, and has been co-advisor to 2 graduate students who completed Masters Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, one at Wayne State University and one at University of Cincinnati.
His interests include Personal Finance education, Value Investing and Intellectual Property matters. He is married to Lakshmi Krishnan and lives in Murfreesboro, TN and has a 3-year old daughter Sruthi.
